MOSSLESS: Did getting stabbed inspire you to shoot more photos?
SANDY CARSON: That’s an interesting question. I wouldn’t say that someone sticking a knife in your back would inspire anything directly other than running faster from hooligans, ha, but it served as the catalyst for me to pack my bags and seek asylum in a safer country. I do think though, where I grew up has subconsciously inspired the tone some of my photography projects I cover. I think it’s helped me document subjects with less naivety and to be more aware of my surroundings.
ML: You’re an accomplished BMX rider. How does it affect your way of shooting?
SC: I think having the opportunity to travel the world on bike tours and having a camera on me did had an affect my way of shooting, although it wasn’t a conscious direction in my photography style. It just developed from documenting road trips and cultures on a bicycle, with a camera. On the aesthetic side of shooting, I do think that some of my compositions and the way I shoot were meant for a bike rider to be in there, somewhere.
ML: What do you hope to be doing in 5 years?
SC: Everything I am doing now, I hope.
ML: What do you hope to be remembered for?
SC: Doing my best and being half decent at anything I fancy trying.
